Field Worker (Beta) update

It’s a busy time for the Field Worker Scrum family, we’ve been working really hard in this Beta phase to create a digital platform that our workers can access whilst delivering services across the city.

Birmingham City Council’s staff working out in our communities, these are our field workers, will be able to access the platform via an application on a device of their choice, giving our field worker’s the ability to capture and update line of business applications as they provide services.  One of the elements of the app, and one which is crucial, is that our field workers will also be notified of any risks associated to visits scheduled for their day ahead – known as Risk Markers.

James Gregory (Head of IT & Digital Programmes) wrote a blog not long ago introducing the project, read more about the work done during the Discovery and Alpha phases here.

We’ve completed Sprint 7, the goals included:

  • Integrators – moving database onto BCC on premise database
  • Transformers – creating functionality to end-to-end for a Building Services Managers to carry out an annual inspection on their device and assign cover should a caretaker be off work
  • Firefighters – create mitigation control measures when raising a risk.

In the spirit of working out in the open and talking about the work we are doing, we’ve recorded the last show and tell session. Watch the recording below for an update on progress and next steps.

  1. Very interesting progress and well done!! Is there a time line for when other services will be scoped and onboarded. I am particularly interested in the inspections works for council tax and business rates.
